Trebles Choir
under the direction of Patrick Wedd
About the Choir: The bilingual treble choir, under the direction of Patrick Wedd, sings on a regular basis downtown at Christ Church Cathedral during Sunday services. The choir rehearsals are on Thursdays at 4:45 pm and on up to 3 Sundays per month prior to services. The Thursday rehearsals include individual music lessons focused on vocal technique, ear-training and music theory.
The enrollment and participation in the choir are free. The candidates are admitted based on the results of an audition. All candidates are welcome, regardless of their gender, religious or cultural backgrounds.
About Patrick Wedd: As a composer, pianist, organist and director
of the choir, Patrick Wedd is well known in the musical community of Montreal,
nationally and internationally. He has concertized extensively, including tours
with the Orchestre Symphonique de Montreal (OSM); recorded as soloist (including with the
Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra), accompanist and conductor with a number of
leading Canadian musicians and ensembles. He is also often heard as host and commentator
on CBC radio.
Patrick directed his first church choir at the age of 12 and has been
active in the world of choral music ever since. As a long-standing director of the Trebles choir,
he knows from experience that nearly every child can learn and enjoy the
choir’s challenging classical repertory. He is admired by the present and former
choristers, who include singer-songwriters, actors, teachers, instrumentalists,
well-known classical vocalists and lifelong lovers of music.
